pink flamingos
The first John Waters film I saw was Hairspray.
I don’t even remember where or when, but I remember Tracy in her pink cockroach dress dancing through civil disobedience to promote equal rights. Noble cause and campy protocol.
Ever since then, I’ve been a fan. And finally yesterday I followed through with what a certain group of my friends have been telling me to do for the past few years: witness the audacity of Pink Flamingos.
At the onset, I was iffy whether a movie made over 30 years ago would still deliver on its promise to shock me into submission. Immediately you were subject to terrible acting, shakey film work and raw editing. But the first few minutes were nothing compared to the mastery of filth that permeated even through all those surface flaws.
Even with all the f-ed up stuff I’ve done and been through, I had to say it was just amazing…
I was disgusted / horrified / delighted / mesmerized.
I have an even higher respect for this man now…
just so brilliant…

Konnichiwa!
I also respect for John Waters. My first John Waters’s film is Female Trouble.
Have you seen it?
The picture on the wall at my bed room is I and he together. I went to meet him at Virgin Mega store in Union square in NYC, 2001.
I don’t wanna watch it. I saw Polyester 20 years ago and Female Trouble 13 years ago and that was enough. I’m still sick to my stomach.
Still, I think he’s a smart guy… but for me, life is too short for his kind of endurance test. Like going to church or something.
