I was lucky enough to be invited to a new store opening for the sole woman who introduced Comme de Garcon to the Chicago area in the 80s.

It was a cute little store bathed in white that showcased a distinct collection of items produced by an array of local designers as well as those who operate below the radar of mainstream society. One of my favorites were a collection of gothic candle holders welded together by a farmer / artist who constructed these using gears, shafts and other random mechanical parts. I wish I had taken pictures, but as we all know the laziness gets to me.

But, what was also interesting was the fact that my boyfriend and I were by far the youngest of the crowd there. We were just below the age of 30 while the general crowd had already established themselves career-wise for some time. (think 10 to 15 years)

I’m still trying to debate the value of the observation. Does it mean that I’ve grown beyond my age group to an older and hopefully more experienced man or does it mean that I’ve lost touch with my generation? Maybe a combination of both?

It’s funny though. When I listen to the radio, I no longer know who the hell anyone is or for that matter care enough to memorize their names when they are mentioned. Have I finally grown out of the MTV demographic or is it my disdain for the naivete of that particular age group that deters me from wanting to even remotely connect myself through shared ideals? Questions and more questions.

I’m getting old.

*sigh*
